Originally destined to become a minister, the Cameroonian Richard Bona started singing in church choirs as a child alongside his mother, a renowned vocalist. By the time he was 8, he was performing with his guitar and balafon in cabarets throughout Cameroon. In early 2008 Bona released his seventh album Richard Bona Makes You Sweat. Richard Bona

Originally destined to become a minister, Richard Bona started singing in church choirs as a child alongside his mother, a renowned vocalist. By the time he was 8, he was performing with his guitar and balafon in cabarets throughout Cameroon. After reaching adulthood, Bona moved to New York, where he was invited to play with big names, including Paul Simon, Harry Belafonte (Bona became his artistic director), Eddie Palmieri, Chaka Khan, Harry Connick and Chucho Valdes. Eventually, to concentrate on his own work, he even refused a gig with Eric Clapton. His first solo album Scenes from my life was finally released in 2000.
